| Jesus driving the SEO experts out of the marketplace (of course not…) |
It had been a while since I had heard about dream sellers in organic SEO. With Google tightening the screws to maximum torque for several years now, I thought everyone had finally learned the lesson: doing low-cost SEO through massive automated submissions and other brute-force methods is ineffective and dangerous.
Then there was this phone call: “XXX Marketing (I will not mention their name so as not to pull them out of the rightful anonymity they are in) is offering to get me onto the first page of Google for 500 EUR on “Villa in Bonifacio” for 5 years. They have an agreement with Google. What do you think?” What I think is that a company whose French website is a machine translation, that does not even have an address in France, and that claims to have an “agreement with Google” is probably made up 100% of miserable crooks. RUN AWAY! Google has no agreement with anyone when it comes to organic SEO.
More than ever, now is the time for quality. Think about your customers’ behavior, and go after them using the long tail, rather than vainly trying to rank for overly generic queries where the big players in the sector will crush you. Be smart and inventive. Be good businesspeople.
