Import a resource
Before using a resource, you first need to import it into your marketing automation tool. To do this, go to the left-hand side menu > Components > Resources.
Create a new resource, give it a name, and choose the file to import. For example, I am going to choose a white paper on marketing automation that is on my computer. If my document is already hosted somewhere, I can use remote hosting by inserting the hosting URL (for example, if the document is on my WordPress).
Once saved, my resource is on Webmecanik Automation and can be accessed from the URL displayed in the right-hand sidebar.
Insert the resource into an email
Once the resource has been created, it must be made available to visitors and contacts. Ideally, in order to collect information such as a visitor’s email address, for example, the download link for a resource should be sent after a form has been submitted. This is an autoresponder.
To do this, you need to create a new email. Channels > Email > New > Automated Email > Choose your theme and launch the builder.
From the builder, add your content, and you can add a link to text or directly to a Call To Action button. Paste here the URL that was generated for hosting your resource.
That’s it! This way, the marketing automation application will track all the contacts who downloaded the resource. We will later see how to group them into a segment.
Trigger the download of a resource upon form submission
Sometimes, it can be useful to trigger the download of a resource directly upon form submission. To do this, in the “Actions” tab of your form, you can add the action “Trigger the download of a resource”. Choose the resource whose download you want to trigger, and that’s it.
You will notice that upon form submission, the download will be instantaneous, as you can see in this example.
Segment of a resource’s visitors
Once you have made the resource available to your visitors and contacts, you will probably want to group together all the contacts who viewed it. To do this, create a new Segment, go to the “Filter” tab, choose the “Downloaded resource” filter, and select the resource of your choice.
Save it, and your segment will be updated with the right contacts within a few minutes!
Score the download of a resource
If you use scoring, you can also use the resource download action as a points trigger.
If you want to do this, go to the left-hand menu > Points > Action Management > New.
Here, you can create a new action by giving it a name and choosing the downloaded resource you want to score. If you do not select one, scoring will apply when any resource is downloaded. Then choose the number of points to assign to this action.
Please note, a points action is triggered only once per contact!
