As I mentioned some time ago to the Mautic Community Core Team, Webmecanik is proud to offer its Mautic expertise and resources to develop a new world class email builder embarking the latest trendy technologies in the email industry.
Since I have been names Product Team leader for the community, I’d like to bring that brand new feature in the Mautic 3 series as candidate in Mautic 3.1.0 or 3.2.0.
Timeline
We’re very happy to be working on the replacement of the current old fashion email builder. This has been requested many times by our customers and we believe that the Mautic Community deserves much better than what we have today!
We’ll first develop it as a plugin and I’ll ask the Mautic Community teams to consider it as core feature candidate. The advantage of having it as a plugin at a first time, is that all community members will be able to apply this feature to their Mautic instance even if not released by Mautic Community yet. Here is the roadmap I will suggest to Mautic Community:
- Develop a Proof Of Concept with a plugin replacing 100% of current features.
- Present and demo this POC to the next Mautic Sprint in Ghent in April 2020 and request Core Members to accept it as core feature candidate for a Mautic 3 minor version.
Also, it is the perfect place to brainstorm about the different features and enhancements we should consider for the future of the email builder. - Publish an email builder features enhancement roadmap and work on it.
- Merge it to core.
Technologies chosen and approach for Mautic Community
We’ve been benchmarking the different available options to create a new email builder. We our DNA and the Mautic Community DNA, we considered that Open Source should be a preferred option and also better for a faster implementation.
There came our conclusion, a mix of the two most trendy technologies, GrapesJS & MJML.
After few weeks of work, we’re also proud to announce that we can offer that move without any BC break. Previous emails and template will be still available and usable.

This is an open source project with a very powerful user interface.
About MJML
This is an open source project that provides a very qualitative and responsive code for all email clients.
Replacing the current builder with the best email technologies
This is the main first step and it should be achieved at the end of March and available for a demo in Ghent during the next Community Sprint in Belgium. This first version will bring the new interface and new generated HTML while keeping all the existing features such as template, token usage, A/B testing, etc.
Knowing the timeframe for the launch of the final version of Mautic 3.0.0, I believe we can have the new email builder as candidate for 3.1.0 or 3.2.0.
Enhance features
Again, we believe Mautic Community deserves even better! It’ll be time to think about the future of the email builder features. I’d suggest people to join the Community Sprint in Belgium to be able to brainstorm with the Product Team about it. If you cannot make it, then please add your comments and suggestions on the New Email Builder Github issue, I will pay attention to it.
