From pressure to depression, there is only one space… The one at work which, sometimes, makes the article (de) and the word (pression) come together in a rather marked way ! In short, the life of a Web Marketing Project Manager is anything but restful. Unless you have the right tools…
Of course, there is the hierarchy and internal demands : do your utmost in as little time as possible, because time is money, satisfy the wishes of Lucille, the Client Director’s clients, because she is too afraid of losing her clients (or her commission, depending on the case !), the hysteria of the Creative Director who is fed up with seeing her beautiful projects trampled on by people who prefer blue where red is clearly the way to go… Agency life, really. But Agency life as experienced by the “little hands“, the ones who keep the Agency alive, in short !
Enough is enough !
Well, those hands are not that little after all. Because you need a hell of a lot of fingers on each hand if you want to absorb the assignments that land on us every day, not forgetting the changes of mind of some people who finally decide that “we should have done it differently ! It was obvious, wasn’t it ?!“
So yes, we love this job. Yes, it is really nice to work with different clients on issues that are just as varied. Yes, it is an enriching, young, and modern working atmosphere… But after a while, how can I put it ? “Enough is enough !”

So I say enough ! “Comrades, Web Marketing Project Managers, let us rise up !“ Mind you, I am not praising the merits of a bloody revolt, nor do I want to take the guillotine out of its museum again, or stroll through the streets, shouting old revolutionary refrains at the top of my lungs, with a head on the end of a pike ! No, what I want is simply good tools !
Let’s campaign for more effective tools !
Because we are fed up with having to perform impossible contortions without tangling our arms, of which we have as many as Shiva Nataraja ! So, dear boss, if you want us to perform well (and generally, if I followed everything correctly, that is one of the main concerns mentioned during the Monday morning meeting !), please stop thinking that :
- it is easy to track the daily analytics results of our 25 clients each, when for each one we have to consult 4 to 5 different tools.
- all it takes is clicking a button to publish on social media at the same time as posting on a blog.
- the customer journey is essential today (we already know that !) to trigger sales, if you do not give us the means to make it happen…
- being responsive and agile is just a state of mind : we are, and better still, we would even like to be even more agile and responsive, but it is not by being forced, every day, for lack of resources, to put out fires that we can be…
- we should work together more, with one another… That is all we are asking for !
We are not asking for the moon, just the right tool!
So, since you want us to be functional, operational, smiling, happy, efficient, responsive, and I do not know what else… In short, that we should not be mere Web Marketing Project Managers but true squadron leaders : we have found the solution… and we are not asking you for the moon to make it happen !
Come on, since we like you anyway despite it all, we will let you in on the secret : Marketing Automation. A single tool to do everything or almost everything and satisfy as many of our precious clients as possible. With this single tool, we will no longer waste time chasing information, we will be able to measure results and react accordingly, we will be able to manage the journeys of our clients’ customers by tracking activity on websites, we will create nice landing pages as if by magic, we will send out emails and social media posts in the blink of an eye, as well as SMS campaigns, and we will produce beautiful reports, with the right KPIs, so that you can shine at the next meeting…
It is not much, really ! And better still, it is not for us, Web Marketing Project Managers, that we are campaigning, it is for our clients, because like you, dear boss friends, we like them too !
