I recently had the opportunity to speak with a manager from one of the largest communications companies in the world. They recently created a web subsidiary, the merits of which he was praising to me.
The principle: volume. With resources suited to their ambitions, that is to say a call center of several dozen people, they offer websites for SMEs / very small businesses (their target). Cheap websites that are (they say) well ranked.
He also admitted to me that in reality, they used ready-made website templates that were customized for each client in… less than an hour. It’s funny, for us, one hour is not enough time to understand the client’s business and put in place even the beginnings of thought and a visitor acquisition strategy. But we’re a bit slow…
It’s a bit like the difference between wild salmon and farmed salmon. The former is becoming scarce while the latter are proliferating. It’s neither the same price nor the same taste, but on the shelves, they seem equivalent.
